THANKSGIVING FOOD GATHERING: The annual Thanksgiving Food Gathering occurs on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and Thursday, Nov. 27. Bring your non-perishable food items to worship either of those days and place them in the chancel. All items will be packaged and delivered by EGL’s Bread & Fish volunteers to the food pantries of sister LCMS congregations in Milwaukee’s central city.

Giving Thanks
“Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good, and His mercy endures forever.” How many times do we say those words and not give pause to truly think about what they mean. The Lord has been good to us and even when we encounter difficulties He is still there with us each and every day. He has blessed us and our families with all of our earthly possessions. It is our responsibility as Christians to share the blessings He has given to us with others, our chapel offering for November is one such opportunity. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity and share those blessings.

Each November, EGLS has an ingathering of non-perishable food items that will be donated to the inner-city Lutheran Church food pantries.  This ingathering will take place on Wednesday, November 26 at our Thanksgiving chapel service. Each class has been assigned certain items to bring and  students may bring those in at any time.  In past years, specially requested items have included peanut butter, tuna fish, canned meats and baby foods, but all non-perishable items are greatly appreciated.  When selecting items for the ingathering, remember to give from your heart in thanksgiving to God for His bountiful blessings to each of us!

ABOUT THE TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
Theme: The Bride Is Led Home

– highlighting the Scriptures for the week –

T
he prophet Amos warns those who desire the “day of the LORD,” for it will not be pleasant. (Amos) In contrasting light with darkness, Amos reminds his listeners (readers) of their sinful condition that pervades the entire world. And yet, God will deliver His chosen from the darkness of this world (1 Thessalonians). At Christ’s return those who have already fallen asleep in faith will rise first from the dead to meet Him in the air. The suddenness of His return calls all to keep watch so that we are not sleeping when the Bridegroom arrives. (Matthew) Those who fail to keep watch are excluded from the marriage feast. Those who are faithful to the end (the Bride, Christ’s Church) will experience everlasting joys.
