ABOUT the TWENTIETH SUNDAY after PENTECOST
Theme: Repentance and Faith
– highlighting the Scriptures for the week –
ot sin, but faith determines God’s response to sinners. (Ezekiel) Each person is held accountable for his own sin: if a righteous man turns to impenitent sin, he will die. On the other hand, a sinner who turns in repentance to the LORD will live; God is absolutely fair in His mercy toward fallen mankind. Those who have received mercy are merciful. (Philippians) Tenderness and compassion are the hallmarks of the company of the baptized faithful. United in love, spirit, and purpose, in humility each member of the church considers the other better than themselves. So also it is in the Father’s Kingdom. (Mathew) Not sin, but penitent faith determines our relationship with our heavenly Father. Wicked people who repent are included, while seemingly righteous people who refuse to obey are excluded. Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
ABOUT the NINETEENTH SUNDAY after PENTECOST
Theme: Surprised by Grace
– highlighting the Scriptures for the week –
he LORD is surpassingly rich in His grace. (Isaiah) He is full of mercy and abundant pardon. His ways and thoughts, higher than ours, surpass all human understanding. In our way of thinking, you get what you earn. Not so in the Kingdom of God. (Matthew) Our heavenly Father rewards all by grace; those who work long and hard receive the same mercy, love, and life as those who penitently turn to Him at the eleventh hour. It’s never too late for the love of God; we may call on Him while He is near. Thus the faithful are sustained in life and in death. (Philippians) To depart and be with Christ is the best of all; yet to remain in the body means fruitful labor in Christ. By the mercy of God, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR CHILDREN IN AFGHANISTAN NEEDED: One of our military men, Jeff Netzel, is serving our country in the U.S. Air Force and is currently stationed in Afghanistan. He wants to gather school supplies for children in Afghanistan who have no supplies. Pencils, small pencil sharpeners, crayons, crayones, sheet paper, or tablets are especially desired. Donations for shipping are also welcome. For more info or to donate, please contact Mrs. Linda Hoffmann before Sept. 24.

ABOUT the EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY after PENTECOST
Theme: The Forgiveness of Sins
– highlighting the Scriptures for the week –
oseph's brothers feared his retaliation. (Genesis) Though they meant to harm him, God had taken their evil and turned it into good; Joseph would not repay evil with evil, but overcome evil with good. There is no limit to the forgiveness in God's heart. (Matthew) While Peter sought to set limits on forgiveness, the love of God in Christ is boundless; it calls for all to forgive those who trespass against them as they have been forgiven. So, too, it is within the church: While there may be differing pieties, there are no struggles between those who do all things to the Lord's glory. (Romans) Whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
Did You Know!
- Student Picture Day is Monday, September 15. Packets went home Friday the 12th.
- You can check your child’s grades anytime at http://fastdir.com/egls/. If you have not registered on Fast Direct to access this information I would encourage you to do so.
- The October hot lunch schedule went out Friday, September 12 and will be due back by Friday, September 19. We encourage you to complete the pre-order form and then make a copy for yourself at home. Your pre-order form should be accompanied by your payment. We are still in need of volunteers to help serve.
- Need a night out? A chance to get a way from the kids? The Parent Advisory Committee is sponsoring a Parent Social on Saturday, September 13 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Parents are encouraged to bring their favorite wine or beer as well as their favorite appetizer to share. This is a chance to meet some of the other parents at EGLS and enjoy a fun evening. We hope that you will join us!
- Our girl’s softball team lost their first game on Tuesday to St. Paul’s 4-2. Mollie Radewahn pitched a strong game but the girls came up just short. We do not yet have a boy’s soccer schedule but will get that out as soon as it is finalized. There is a game tentatively scheduled for Warcats-1 on Saturday, September 20, 9:00 a.m. at Milwaukee Lutheran this is the only Saturday game scheduled. We will also have some home games. Soccer players we need your Athletic Permission Forms submitted before you can play in a game.
- School Supplies Needed: USAF SSgt. Jeff Netzel (Mrs. Hoffmann’s nephew) is currently serving in Afghanistan. During his service there he found that many of the children attending school in Afghanistan did not have the basic school supplies that they need. He has asked for our help in meeting those needs. We are currently collecting: pencils, small pencil sharpeners, crayons, sheet paper or tablets of paper. We are also accepting donations to help cover the cost of postage. We would like to send the supplies as soon as possible so all donations are due in Mrs. Hoffmann’s room by Wednesday, September 24. Thank you for your support of this project.
- The Wildcats Running Club will continue on Monday, Sept. 15, from 3:45-5:00 p.m. We also have our first “practice” meet against Immanuel Lutheran School at EGL. A sign-up flyer went home on Friday for all K-8 students who are interested. The meet is for all students, not just those who run in the club who love running and want to build endurance and compete. Please note a change on the schedule! The last practice will be on Monday, October 6, not the 8th, as stated on the flyer. If you have any questions contact Miss Anderson at tanderson@egl.org.
PICTURE DAY MONDAY MORNING SEPTEMBER 15TH.
MS News Question of the Week: Which team has a game on Tuesday and where do they play?
The Cell Phone or the Bible - I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treated our cell phone. What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it? What if we gave it to children as gifts? What if we used it when we traveled? What if we used it in case of an emergency? This is something to make you go, “Hmm…where is my Bible?” Oh, and one more thing, unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill! Makes you stop and think, “Where are my priorities?” And no dropped calls!
Growing in Christ Sunday School starts this Sunday Sept. 7. Come see the revised format for this year! There will no longer be an opening or treats in the Fellowship Hall. Students will go directly to their classrooms anytime after 9:20 a.m., with class beginning promptly at 9:30 a.m.
