December 10----for the week of December 13-17

***Memory for Tuesday:

May Your unfailing love come to me, O Lord,

Your Salvation according to Your promise.        Psalm 119:41

***Memory for Thursday:

My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices

in God my Savior.     Luke 1:46-47

The “Words to Remember” sheet of memory verses coming home today will not be followed verse by verse.  Only some of the selections will be used for memory grades.  All of them will be discussed as they pertain to the story taught and please feel free to have your child put these wonderful words of God into their memories.  They just won’t all be graded here at school. J

***Spelling words for the test on Friday are:

sheep      ship     wish     dish     wash     chase     chop    much    such    each     (review)    she     chin       (elephant words)     catch    sure

 (extra curriculum word)     church

***Math chapter on double digit addition concludes this week.  The practice test will come home early in the week and should be completed and returned on Thursday.  The test will follow on Friday.  They’ve been doing very well… just remind them about the “extra ten” and to please have them SHOW the extra ten in their work.  We want them to get in that habit for when multiplication comes in the future (don’t worry---not this year).

*** The reading selection is Rosa and Blanca.

  Vocabulary words are:

alone   buy   chiles    daughters    half     luckiest     many   their    youngest

A test on the comprehension and vocabulary of this story will be on Thursday.

*** The next reading selection is A Weed Is a Flower. It focuses on

the life and accomplishments of George Washington Carver.  Vocabulary words are:

agriculture         clothes      question        hours

laboratory          money         neighbor

only          greenhouse                   taught

A test on the story content and vocabulary of this selection will be after Christmas break on Wednesday.

***The big chapter on nouns in English is coming to completion.  Proper nouns, plural nouns, and possessive nouns are all included…along with some other mini-lessons.   Review pages will continue to come home this week as we review in class.  We’ll do some in class and leave some for examples to do at home.  They do not need to be returned…just use them for studying for the test.  The test is Friday.

***There should be a health test on Friday also, but that would make FOUR tests in one day.  I’ll mix things around and move the test to next Monday.  The chapter covers Avoiding Dangers of fire, weapons, poisons, and strangers.  These topics may bring some things to be discussed at home.

While you’re out shopping be on the “look-out” for cute stuffed animals to give for Christmas to help us share the Christmas joy.

Every other year, EGL does a service project for Christmas instead of a child-to-child gift exchange.  This year’s project is a great one.  Christmas Cuddles for Kids provides teddy bears and other stuffed animals for emergency crews to give to kids when the EMT’s, firefighters and police officers respond to traumatic situations.  The stuffed animals collected will be given to local responders.  To make it still be like Christmas, bring the new stuffed animal wrapped as a Christmas present.  We will open it during our party but then place it in the collection box so it will truly be a gift given by the second grade student.

The classroom is in need of “hand wipes”.  Donations would be appreciated.

Please have your child in our classroom by 6:10 on Wednesday.  We have shepherd and angel gowns to put on and wings and halos to straighten. J   The costumes will be worn for the entire service, over their clothes.
