Week of November 17, 2008
*** Memory for Tuesday:
Hark, a thrilling voice is sounding!
Christ is nigh! We hear it say;
Cast away the works of darkness,
O ye children of the day!
***Memory for Thursday:
If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die,
we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we
belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8

***Science lesson 3 has been finished. On Friday, posters were shared with additional information about habitats of animals within the environments studied. The chapter review will be on Monday and the TEST will be on Wednesday.
***Phonics has become more challenging for some of the students. As I shared with you at home visits, second grade gets into the many vowel pairs that compose our words. We currently are working on the many spellings of long vowel sounds. a__e ai ay i__e ie igh u__e ue ui o__e oa ow o (in short words like go, no, and so) They need to start recognizing these vowel pairs and know what sounds they make.
***In English we’ve worked on nouns, grouping them as person, place, or thing. We’ve also learned that proper nouns are capitalized. MOST IMPORTANT now is making the letters the correct size, or it can’t be determined what is capital and what is not capital. Cc Ss Uu Vv Ww
If other short letters are as tall the letter that is supposed to be capital it isn’t clear whether it is a capital or not.
We started working on the rules of writing plurals in reading and will now get it again in our English lessons.
***Chapel offering is a thank-offering of food items. Cereal (boxed, bagged, or oatmeal, etc.) is the focus food for second grade. Please consider sharing part of the blessings that God has given to your family. Items can be brought in any day in the next two weeks. They will be taken to the altar before chapel on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
*** Noah’s Ark Reading Program calendar sheets got buried on my desk. SORRY about that! 600 minutes is the goal to be reached by the end of December. An entrance tickets to the water park for next season is the reward. Noah’s Ark minutes can be “piggy-backed” with Book-It minutes if needed.
*** Children are singing November 23rd at the 8:00 service. They should be in the Music Center by 7:40
Thanks to Michelle Bellante, 2nd grade won the Market Day pie-selling contest. We get a movie and popcorn treat. Karlie had directions to give Mom 10 hugs.
Congratulations to the 2nd grade for winning one of the A.R. class contests!!!
A bagel party is coming our way. Details of the day need to be coordinated, yet.
