November Activities
Dear Parents,
November brings some of the most ideal weather conditions for playing and being active outdoors. These activities include walking, biking, hiking, playing backyard sports or simply outdoor exploration. The National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) recommends 60 minutes per day of physical activity. The benefits of physical activity include stronger hearts, muscles, and bones and can actually help grow new brain cells. Did you know that by encouraging and participating with your child in physical activities outdoors, you can help expand your child’s creativity, imagination and emotional well being? Recent research has shown a link between these benefits and being physically active outdoors.

There are a number of resources that you can use to find safe outdoor physical activity venues in your area that may fit your needs and interests, some of them include:
                        http://www.nps.gov/
                        http://www.recreation.gov/
                        http://gorp.away.com/index.html
                        http://www.nwf.org/playandobserve/

As your child’s physical educator, I look forward to helping him/her develop skills and knowledge so that he/she can make physical activity a part of every day and live a healthy, active life. I would be happy to help in finding or planning outdoor physical activities for you and your family.
